The hundred-year-old Clift is a landmark in San Francisco. A wonderland of glamour behind a classic façade, it fuses old world elegance and a sense of theatre with contemporary flair, epitomising the diversity and energy of the city. The dramatic lobby houses a fantastical miscellany of furniture, including a coffee table by Salvador Dali and a sculpture custom made by William Sawaya.
The centrepiece is a thirty-five-foot fireplace with a Bronze chimney sculpture by Gerard Garouste. This dream-like theme continues in the accommodation – from standard rooms through to deluxe suites. The custom-made and beautifully crafted furniture is designed by Philippe Starck and features English sycamore, silk, leather, velvet, chrome and Venetian Murano glass. The monumental magic of The Clift is encapsulated in its legendary Redwood Room. Its colossal bar and panelling are said to be carved from a single giant tree and this glamorous fashionable bar is now home to an ever-changing array of digital artwork displayed on plasma television screens hung throughout the room.
