Angama Mara

Angama Mara

Angama Mara sits high on a ridge, overlooking the famed Maasai Mara game reserve. Here, you can simply relax, enjoying the view and the temperate climate, or be more adventurous and explore. Set up your own personalised itinerary just as you like it.

Rise in the pre-dawn cool for a hot air balloon ride, walk along the edge of the Great Rift Valley or be a guest in a traditional Maasai family home.

Maasai’s great game

The Maasai Mara is perhaps the loveliest – and most exciting – game reserve in Africa. Expect to see prides of lions, herds of elephants, buffaloes, leopards and rhinos. Take a walking tour with a Maasai naturalist to learn about their way of life and seek out the rare oribi antelope.

The combination of the geography of the park and its wildlife offers a wonderful opportunity for photography. Imagine being able to capture one of the great migrations, or a pride of lions relaxing in the shade of a tree.

Lazy days

The lodges at Angama Mara offer plenty of opportunity for relaxation. You will recognise the views from the film ‘Out of Africa’, and can enjoy a ‘red rocking-chair safari’ right at your tent, watching the wildlife in the valley below. Alternatively, settle down in the library to enjoy some of the best Africana books and films.

Expend some energy in the pool or fitness room, or simply stretch out on one of our sun-loungers.

Maasai culture

Maasai warriors perform every evening at sunset, where you are welcome to take photos or even join in. Learn to thread beads in the craft studio or buy jewellery directly from the Maasai women who create it. Many of the local homesteads welcome visitors, and their occupants are happy to talk about their traditions and challenges in a modern society.
