A fascinating destination awaits in the heart of Africa
Get lost on the unending plains of KenyaSituated on the East Coast of Africa, Kenya’s stunning natural beauty and abundance of wildlife make the country a nature-lover’s paradise. From the spectacular Rift Valley to the magnificent twin peaks of Mount Kenya, one of our luxury Kenyan holidays is guaranteed to leave you with memories you’ll treasure forever.
Nature and wildlife
Kenya is home to numerous national parks and wildlife sanctuaries where you can immerse yourself in some of the world’s most spectacular flora and fauna. Visit Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, which holds 50 mammal species including elephants, buffalo, cheetahs and lions and 300 bird species. Another popular attraction is Amboseli National Park, which is famous for its elephant herds and views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Western Kenya boasts some splendid scenery with its grassy plains and jungle thickets dotted with small market towns. The enormous Lake Victoria has an understandable appeal with its scattering of islands, excellent fishing and welcoming local people. Kakamega Forest, an expanse of equatorial rainforest, holds a great variety of plants and animals found nowhere else in Kenya, while the valley of Ruma is home to roan antelopes, giraffes and black rhinos.
The Rift Valley comprises an extraordinary expanse of rolling savannahs and crystalline lakes that never fail to impress. Take a stroll along the shore of Lake Naivasha, one of only two freshwater lakes in the Rift Valley, and visit the forested Lake Nakuru National Park, known for its white and black rhinos. Then there’s the towering red cliffs of Hell’s Gate, which are a tremendous sight in themselves and host a variety of wildlife, including buffalo, elands, zebras, baboons, hartebeest, and Thomson’s gazelle, to name a few. Experience all of this and more with a luxury safari in Kenya.
Other highlights
As well as being Kenya’s capital, Nairobi is the largest, highest and, by common consensus, the most exciting city in East Africa. The diverse range of bars and restaurants is extensive and the markets sell a fantastic variety of handicrafts and fresh produce. At the National Museum, you’ll find fascinating exhibits relating to Africa’s wildlife, culture and human evolution.
Mombasa, on the eastern coast, blends intriguing culture with historical charm and has a more relaxed ambiance than the capital. Visit the impressive monument of Fort Jesus before heading to one of the alluring beaches to the north or south of the city. In the south you’ll find a fabulous sweep of palm-fringed sand broken only by the occasional meandering river. Visit Watamu or Malindi to snorkel or scuba dive among the splendour of the coral reefs that stretch the length of Africa's eastern coast.
For sublime relaxation and picturesque surroundings, head for Diani or Tiwi. Sail the seas on a dhow or take a trip on a glass-bottomed boat for the ultimate view of the underwater world.
