Anakao is another idyllic beach destination, where boats made from tree trunks float serenely on the crystal clear water. Here, you can get close to nature on a whale-watching trip, where vast humpback whales can be spotted cruising the ocean. The tall limestone peaks of the Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park are an otherworldly sight, and visitors can explore them using an intricate network of walkways, bridges and ladders.

Whilst Madagascar’s major draw is its incredible wildlife and natural beauty, its capital, Antananarivo, is not to be missed. Wander its winding alleyways and buzzing street markets to get a feel for the city and its way of life. Another cultural highlight is Ambohimanga, a royal city and Unesco World Heritage Site which remains a sacred and spiritual place for many people.
