Umbria

Umbria Luxury Holidays

Italy’s Green Heart

Uncover the artistic, cultural and natural sensations this region has to offer.

A realm where spiritual inspirations, artistic heritage, and natural wonders harmoniously intertwine.

Umbria doesn’t border another country or the sea and this has helped to keep many of Italy’s traditions alive here. It’s a stunningly beautiful region, beloved for its unspoiled landscapes and abundant birdlife. There are forests to visit and the Marmore Waterfall, one of the tallest in Europe.

Perugia

Umbria’s regional capital, with it’s medieval centre, is a city rich in art and culture. Discover the ancient Etruscan and Byzantine heritage and the vibrant tradition of hand-crafted pottery which has been handed down through the generations. Learn about the history of olive oil and wine; visit churches and museums and one of the most beautiful squares in Italy.

Città della Pieve

Stretching along a hillside with dramatic views of the lava dome of Mount Amiata and archaeological oasis of Mount Cetona. You’ll discover a 14th century Franciscan hermitage, Torre del Butarone, picturesque and ancient tower and the walled village of Salci, near the border with Lazio and Tuscany, with a charming hill top castle centred around two lovely courtyards which once housed the Ducal Palace, tavern and market.

Norcia and The Sibillini Mountain National Park

Sibillini Mountain National Park is a green paradise perfect for hiking, mule treks, rafting and canyoning. Here mountains rise above 2000 metres of altitude and along the rivers and valleys are over 1800 species of plants and flowers, including the Apennine edelweiss, bearberry, and hornbeam. It’s a land that’s home to the Karst grottoes and to wolves, porcupines and wildcats. In the centre of the National Park is the historic town of Norcia, with statues, a monumental fortress and Roman ruins.

Local Experiences

There are plenty of opportunities for hiking and biking and more adventurous visitors can experience rafting and canyoning. The region is steeped in history, from Roman monuments to Byzantine mosaics. The taste of Umbria derives from the centuries-old traditions of oil and wine production and it’s also home to artisan workshops, master goldsmiths and glassmakers. The truffle is a fundamental element of Umbrian cuisine and joining an experienced truffle hunter is an enriching experience that brings you closer to nature. Discover how this precious fruit of the earth is harvested, thanks to skilled truffle dogs.
