Enjoy stunning wildlife, iconic city-scapes and delicious food and wine
South Africa simply has it allSouth Africa is the place to go on a wildlife safari, with lions, buffalos, elephants, rhinos and other exotic animals roaming the picturesque landscapes.
Luxury South African holidays can also take you to the bustling cities of Cape Town or Johannesburg, offering an experience like no other.
Safaris and outdoor adventures
South Africa has numerous national parks and reserves where you can see wild animals. Stay in first class lodges and camps where you can wake up to the sounds of birds and animals, and enjoy the delicious local cuisine.
Although the chance to see elephants and big cats is a major draw, a luxury safari in South Africa can offer much more. You’ll be able to see a vast array of birds, as well as unique reptiles such as leopard tortoises, while the oceans teem with seals, whales and sharks.
A safari can be experienced on the back of a 4x4 truck, or you can walk with a guide along the many trails. Perhaps the greatest place for safaris is Kruger National Park, which has over 137 species of animals and more than 500 species of birds.
For the even more adventurous, South Africa is the perfect place for rock climbing, diving, surfing, paragliding and bungee jumping.
Cape Town
Legislative capital Cape Town is where varied cultures come together. Table Mountain park features the famous flat-topped mountain that overlooks the city. The park is a great place to hike, bike and abseil amidst beautiful scenery.
Cape Town was designated a World Design capital in 2014, which is no surprise since the city is home to a variety of museums and art galleries. The brightly painted facades of the Bo-Kaap, the bathing chalets of Muizenberg, the Afro décor in the restaurants and the striking street art also demonstrate the talent of the city’s artists and designers.
Cape Town’s surrounding areas offer plenty to explore too. Spend some time relaxing in the Winelands, or head to Hermanus to spot whales.
Johannesburg
Johannesburg is the vibrant heart of South Africa. It’s a modern, expanding city with new and exciting buildings constantly popping up.
Despite its eye to the future, there are many reminders of South Africa’s past in the city. Liliesleaf Farm was the secret quarters of the ANC from 1961 to 1963, and Nelson Mandela was once captured there. History buffs can also visit the Old Fort at Constitution Hill, which dates back to 1892 and was once a notorious prison.
The Winelands
An hour’s ride from Cape Town will take you to the Winelands, where some of the best wine in South Africa is produced. There have been European settlers in the Winelands since the 17th century and you can see various examples of historic buildings in the area.
