Fugitives Drift is a spectacular, one-off property that is steeped in local history. Set within a site totalling 5,000 acres, the hotel overlooks Rorke’s and Isandlwana’s Drift, site of the famous Anglo-Zulu War. Fugitives’ Drift can take guests on astonishing tours of the former battlefield tours, bringing the 1879 battles to life. Deluxe five-star accommodation combines with excellent wines and dining, battlefield touring, breathtaking wildlife and superlative views over Zululand to create a truly memorable experience.
A range of guest accommodation
Fugitives Drift offers an array of guest accommodation, all of a superb standard. All guest house rooms feature en-suite facilities, ceiling fans and verandas with garden and bushland views. There is a swimming pool, and visitors take their meals together in the restored farmhouse living and dining area. There are also several separate buildings providing secluded accommodation, from cosy Kwa-George cottage sleeping two, or the self-catering farmhouse with three en-suites plus sitting and dining rooms and kitchen, to the five-star lodge which offers a range of luxurious guest rooms. All visitors take meals along with other guests within the guest house building, although meals are optional for those staying in the larger, separate farmhouse.
Battlefields and safaris
Daily tours depart from Fugitives Drift to Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift, the sites of the Zululand battles of the late nineteenth century. Due to the owners’ longstanding associations with the local community, guests at Fugitives Drift can gain a unique insight into these important battles, from the viewpoint of the local Zulu people. This helps visitors to develop a deeper understanding of South Africa - in the present day as well as the past. In addition to battlefield tours, guests at Fugitives Draft can take part in walking safaris within the 5,000-acre reserve. Excursions to Blood River, another famous battleground, are also very popular.
